ALL GLASS SQUASH COURT- THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO PADEL COURT SIZE

PADEL COURT DIMENSIONS: THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO PADEL COURT SIZE, COST & MORE

Did you know that the dimensions of a padel court are specific to the sport?

Racket sports like padel, tennis, badminton, and pickleball are all played on courts that look pretty similar (with balls that look similar!).

Because of this, anyone who is not familiar with these racket sports may think that padel courts and other types of racket sports courts are interchangeable.

If you are planning to build a padel court at home – or convert an existing court into a padel court – it’s important to understand that padel court dimensions differ from the other racket sports mentioned above.

If you’re interested in setting up your own padel court, knowing its dimensions will give you accurate measurements to achieve that perfect padel court.

Given the addition of the glass and wire railing, and how they are used in the game, a padel court is perhaps more integral to padel rules than in other sports.

Therefore, knowing the correct padel court dimensions really is crucial if you want to play padel correctly.

With that in mind, here’s everything you need to know about a padel court size, construction, cost, types, requirements, and more!

What are the dimensions of a padel court?

When it comes to the playing surface of the court, a padel court has a length of 20 meters and a width of 10 meters. This is determined by the International Padel Federation.

Since the net divides the padel court down the middle, each side of the court is always 10 square meters.

Padel Court Walls

The walls of the padel court have varying height measurements.

At their lowest, padel court walls have a height of 3 meters along the sideline, made from a wire railing.

At the back of the court, and for 1 meter along the side walls, the solid walls reach a maximum height of 4m.

If you wish to build your own padel court, you’re not limited to just using glass as the material for the end walls. You can also use concrete or other solid materials.

However, the clear glass allows spectators to safely watch a padel game and is, therefore, the material of choice – especially on outdoor padel courts.

When it comes to the total height of the enclosed court – including any safety netting or wire mesh above the walls of a padel court – the minimum height recommended is usually 6 meters.

However, many new courts reach up to 8 meters, and many allow even more extra space above the solid walls.

Padel Court Lines

Now that you have the rest of the court laid out, all that’s left is to determine the lines of the court.

On a padel court, all lines measure 5cm wide.

Just like any other racket sports court, a net is placed in the center, and the lines are drawn from here.

For a padel court, the net is measured at 10 m wide and has a height of 0.88 m in the center and 0.92 m for the two net posts on both sides of the net.

The service line sits 6.95m from the net – or 3m from the back walls of the padel court (allowing for the 5cm width) – and each service area is split by a perpendicular line that runs from the service line to the net.

Padel Court Dimensions: Frequently Asked Questions

As you can see, setting up a padel court is relatively simple – at least when it comes to the padel court dimensions.

Of course, there’s more to setting up a padel court than simply knowing how much space you need.

Here are the answers to some of the other questions you may have about padel courts.

How big is a padel court compared to a tennis court?

As we have already seen, a padel court measures a nicely rounded 10m in width by 20m in length.

On the other hand, tennis courts are measured at 23.77 meters in length and 10.97 meters in width for doubles and 8.23 meters in width for singles games.

Therefore, a padel court is shorter than a tennis court by almost four meters when it comes to length. As for the width of the court, there’s less than a one-meter difference between the size of the court used for padel and the size of a tennis court.

How many padel courts fit into a tennis court?

Only one padel court can fit in a tennis court since they share almost the same dimensions.

This is quite different to sports like pickleball, which is also often played on a converted court can fit up to four courts onto a single court!

How many square meters is a padel court?

Given that it has a length of 20m and a width of 10m, a padel court has a total surface area of 200 meters squared. This is how much space you will need if you wish to construct – or convert – a padel court.

How many players are there in a padel court?

There’s a total of four players in a padel court at one time – one team of two players on each side of the net.

Are indoor courts and outdoor padel courts the same?

Padel courts can be built for both indoor and outdoor use, but the padel court dimensions remain the same.

Of course, there are other considerations to take into account when it comes to play padel indoors vs outdoors, but this does not affect the dimensions of the court.

Is there a difference between a padel court and a padel tennis court?

Padel tennis is just another name used for padel, but the sport is normally referred to as the latter.

Remember, though: there’s a difference between padel tennis and paddle tennis. Don’t interchange them with one another since they’re two different sports.

Paddle tennis is a sport that’s also similar to tennis, but it isn’t the same as padel (or padel tennis).

Constructing a padel court: Need to know

So, now you know the exact padel court dimensions, here are some other things it’s good to know if you’re a new padel player or if you plan to build a padel court at home or in a local sports facility.

Is a lot of space needed to construct a padel court?

As we have seen, a padel court requires 200 square meters of playable area.

Of course, you’ll also want to have some space around the court you allow for at least one player access point – and perhaps for spectators.

Ideally, you’ll want to have a space that is 21m long and 11m wide to allow for this.

These are minimum measurements at best, but if you can provide more space for a padel court, then that would be better.

How much does it cost to build a padel court?

The cost of building a padel court will depend on a number of factors.

These include where you live, the ground you are working with – a converted tennis court will be much cheaper, of course! – and the materials you use.

It will also depend on whether you choose to build the padel court yourself, hire contractors or even hire a padel court manufacturer to build the court for you. (Yes, they do exist!)

While the court can vary a lot, the construction of a padel court will likely cost around $16,000 to $26,000 in total.

What are the types of padel courts?

Padel courts are characterized by four types:

Panoramic padel court

This is the most common type of padel court and therefore the one you are most likely to come across.

  • An expensive type of padel court
  • The walls are made out of high-quality glass
  • The court lacks frames in between glasses
  • The crystals in the glass used in panoramic courts are thicker than in other courts

Court padel eco frames

This is a more budget-friendly option and is commonly used in communities looking for an easier or starter solution.

  • An affordable type of padel court
  • The structure of this court is either made from metallic or glass materials
  • It’s easy to assemble and disassemble

Portable padel court

As the name implies, you can easily bring this type of court anywhere. A portable padel court is a great option for home play, too.

  • It’s easy to install and doesn’t do any damage to the ground once installed
  • The walls are made out of glass
  • It doesn’t require any screws or bolts for its structure

WPT professional padel court

For padel tournaments and professional play, a WPT professional padel court will be used. You may also see them if you play at a dedicated padel club.

  • Crystals are bound together
  • Lack of frames at the bottom and lateral sides of the court for maximum visibility
  • Also used for exhibitions and other padel events

What are the requirements needed for a padel court?

While padel court dimensions are of importance in building a court, there are other factors you still need to consider to get the perfect padel court. These include:

  • Ceiling height
  • Surface material
  • Appropriate flooring
  • Building permits
  • Proper installation
  • Maintenance
